Filippo Inzaghi’s Pisa return to Serie A after 34 years

MILAN (Agencies): Pisa will return to Serie A next season after a 34-year absence as Filippo Inzaghi’s side were guaranteed promotion from Italy’s second tier on Sunday. Pisa secured direct promotion despite suffering a 1-0 loss at Bari on Sunday, as their closest challengers for second place, Spezia, also lost 2-1 to Reggiana, leaving them nine points adrift in Serie B with two matches remaining. Pisa will join already-promoted table-toppers Sassuolo in Serie A next season while Spezia are guaranteed a spot in the promotion playoffs. Former AC Milan and Juventus striker Inzaghi, 51, is the brother of 49-year-old Simone Inzaghi, who is in charge of reigning champions Inter Milan. Sassuolo secured their return to Serie A in the middle of April, one season after being relegated.
