LAHORE: Former Pakistan cricketer Imad Wasim has revealed his decision to retire from cricket, citing personal reasons and mental health concerns as the driving factors behind this significant step. While talking to a local sports YouTube channel, Imad expressed the importance of mental well-being and emphasized the gravity of his mental health in making such a life-altering choice. “I was not in the right mental state, and if I were in that condition, I would never have made this decision,” Imad said. Moreover, the 34-year old also reflected on the unpredictability of life ahead. “This is life, and everything is possible. I have made this decision without any intention of turning back. It’s a significant step, and I am uncertain about what life has in store, but it is what it is,” he further added.
Amidst his international retirement announcement, Imad also bid farewell to his long-standing association with the Karachi Kings franchise, where he spent eight years. Expressing gratitude and fondness for the team and acknowledged the support he received from the team’s owner, Salman Iqbal, while expressing his best wishes for the franchise’s future endeavors. “Karachi Kings gave me immense love. I have played eight years for Karachi Kings, and it’s not easy to leave a franchise. If Salman Iqbal owns it then we own it to since we gave eight years of our life to the franchise. I wish them good luck. ” Imad said. Furthermore, Imad acknowledged the transient nature of player contracts and the decisions ultimately lying in the hands of the franchises.
“Leaving old franchises, joining new ones, or returning to previous ones is all part of the franchise trade. This is a new beginning, leaving old franchise and joining new ones or coming back to old franchise, this all is a part of franchise trade. Last decision is of franchise, we only have the leisure to say yes or no upon being asked. Everyone wanted a trade and this is how it happens,” he concluded. It is worth noting that Imad joined Islamabad United in the Platinum category, while Hasan Ali (Diamond category) was transferred to Karachi Kings. Karachi Kings gain Islamabad United’s first round silver pick in exchange for their second round silver pick as part of this player trade.
