LAHORE: Pakistan’s leg-spinner Usman Qadir has announced his retirement from international cricket, marking the end of a career that saw him represent his country in 25 T20 Internationals and one ODI. The 31-year-old cricketer shared the news via a heartfelt post on X (formerly known as Twitter), expressing gratitude for the opportunity to represent Pakistan. Qadir, the son of legendary leg-spinner Abdul Qadir, reflected on his journey, thanking his coaches, teammates, and the fans who supported him throughout his career. “It has been an immense honour to represent my country,” Usman wrote. “I’m thankful for the support of my coaches and teammates who have been with me every step of the way.” Despite his accomplishments, Usman also faced challenges, including frustrations over his exclusion from the national team. In May 2024, he voiced concerns about former PCB technical director Mohammad Hafeez, alleging that Hafeez influenced his absence from the squad. Usman has vowed to continue his father’s legacy as he steps away from Pakistan cricket. “As I step into this new chapter, I will be continuing my dad’s legacy, embracing both my love for cricket and the lessons he instilled in me,” Usman stated. Usman concluded his international career with 29 wickets and an economy rate of 7.95 in T20Is. He last represented Pakistan in 2022 and had since been playing for the Dolphins in the Champions One-Day Cup.
